Amitav Ghosh, originally from Kolkata, India, is the renowned author of several novels including Circle of Reason, In an Antique Land, Dancing in Cambodia, Calcutta Chromosome, Ibis Trilogy consisting of Sea of Poppies, River of Smoke and Flood of Fire, and many more. The Sea of Poppies was shortlisted for Man Booker Prize. His most recent book is a timely non-fiction – The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable. He was honored with several awards including PadmaShree (2007), France’s Prix Médicis, Sahitya Akademi Award, Ananda Puraskar, Arthur C. Clarke award, Crossword Book Prize, India Plaza Golden Quill Award, and Blue Metropolis Prize in Montreal. He studied at Oxford, and received honorary doctorates from Queens College and Sorbonne, Paris.
