Who we are: The World Health and Education Network (WHEN) is a non-profit organization based in New Jersey, US dedicated to improving access to quality healthcare and education for underpriveleged populations throughout the world. We provide grants to fund research and implementation projects that will improve the quality of healthcare in India.
Who can apply: The WHEN Scholarship Grant is for students, trainees, and professionals in the fields of medicine, public health, and other healthcare-related fields.
How to apply: Candidates must complete an online application which will include a 1000 word essay describing the proposed project, its estimated cost, location, objectives, materials, and time-frame. Application also requires that two letters of recommendation and a curriculum vitae (CV) be submitted by email to whenUSA@gmail.com. Deadline for application submission is March 15, 2014.
How the grant recipients are chosen: Applications will be read by WHEN’s Board of Directors and 5 finalists will be selected. All finalists will be expected to participate in an interview with one or more of WHEN’s board members. This interview will be conducted in person or via phone or Skype. The applicant whose project seems most likely to improve healthcare delivery in India will received the grant money. At the end of the project, the winning grantee will be required to submit a 2-page summary of the project, its successes and pitfalls, and how the grantee will use the data gathered in the future. Publication in the medical literature is encouraged but not required.
How WHEN will assist with research: During the project, WHEN will provide assistance to the winning grantee, including public health strategy, epidemiology, and biostatistics for data analysis. WHEN will help connect grant recipients with public health specialists in India and the US to provide guidance and teaching.
